Heading North

Being back in this town has me reminiscing,
On the patterns I've fallen to.
Listening to scholars spewing knowledge,
Constraining me to these halls of ivy.
Observing arrogance at its prime,
As students drown themselves,
Just to pass the time.
These ice roads and white snow,
Have kept me heading north.
And even though I can't feel my toes,
I'll be standing far above you.
As these kids come back,
Overflowing the streets,
With a disregard on reality.
They'll find themselves out of reach.
Back in the places, they slaved through their teens.

Ice Skates
03:36
|

There are so many reasons,
That I should distance myself,
From this season.
I could shield myself from the outside.
I could curse about,
The storms that keep me in.
But here we are,
At this frozen lake,
And we're borrowing,
Your parents' ice skates.
Cold, but not cold enough.
You can feel safe if you've got your hand in mine.
This layer of ice that we trust with our lives.
You can't feel safe if you can't feel anything.
Silence and the cracking of ice,
These two different things,
These two distinct qualities that make up air.
The water's still,
And I don't feel wrong.

Always

I'll always make time for sleigh bells.
I'll always make time for snow-covered hills.
I'll always make time for decorations.
I'll always make time for you.
I'll always make time for angels in the snow.
I'll always make time for snowball fights.
I'll always make time for the winter.
And I'll always make time for you.
