Presents

The north pole has never been colder.
And I've heard the same things from the other side of the world.
All the downtime leaves me itching for the best days (of the year).
Hanging out with all the elves,
Making toys and seeing how the earth has changed,
Since last year.
It's been too long.
A whole year,
The sleigh has called me with its song.
I've delivered these presents about this time of year,
For as long as I can remember.
This outfit has never felt better.
Down the chimey a few times tonight.
A couple cookies and some milk I'll take for the ride.
And I'll be as loud as I want when I'm on their rooftops.
It's the only time of year when jealousy strikes all the normal reindeer.
I'll never see their faces.
No, I'll never see their faces,
When the morning comes.

Statues

I want to be like the statues.
They revel in cold and don't change who they are.
They earn all their reverence in past lives.
And they'll always stand for the same things,
Alone.
It's the kind of day when the wind blows at you from all directions.
It's the kind of day when the cold makes you cry.
The trees are evergreen, the trimmings are green,
But I'm not.
The trees are evergreen, as green as this city,
But I'm not.
I may be moving (on).

Cottage

I went away last summer,
Which meant I couldn't afford to go away this year.
The slopes bright as the summer.
Not every winter brings a chance like this.
Ledges sharp like her tongue.
We've been over this.
Cottage warm like the night when,
We went over this.
Cold snap on the long walk home.
Is this how we'll make it home?
Boots tied tight.
Scarf on the door knob.
You're looking better than you ever have.
